It is not possible to customize the duration and itinerary of the trip. You will be traveling in semi-independence, which means your accommodations are booked for you in advance. During the day, you are free to do whatever you want. Our roadbook and app provide plenty of suggestions for activities and points of interest, and you have the freedom to choose the ones that interest you the most.
Our base prices for road trips are calculated based on two people per car. If you want to go alone, you will have to pay the base price twice. Also, the distances can sometimes be long and tiring. That’s why we do not recommend traveling alone.
You have until 45 days before your departure to change your participation in optional activities.
You can manage this directly in your Travelbase account by logging in.
On arrival, you will be warmly welcomed by our local partners. They will greet you and give you a brief introduction before your trip begins.
You will also be given access to a chat group with all the other participants departing on the same date just before you set off. You can use this group to chat with each other or with our team.
Kyrgyzstan is a very mountainous country, with significant differences in altitude. You will spend 2 nights at over 3000m, which can cause migraines and altitude sickness in some people. We do not recommend this trip for individuals with lung issues or for pregnant women.
As for the rest, Kyrgyzstan is a very safe country, especially in terms of food hygiene.
The roadbook includes the general itinerary that takes you through the most iconic sites of the country, as well as anecdotes, tips, and recommendations from our team. It will serve as your guide to explore Kyrgyzstan. While suggested stops are provided, you’ll have the freedom to adjust the route to your preferences and add extra stops.
The yurts are reserved for couples/groups of three, so you won't have to share any common room. The restrooms, especially in the yurt camps, may be outside the accommodations and shared.
Kyrgyzstan Nomads is not an ideal road trip for young children. Due to
We recommend a minimum age of 8 years.
Below this age, comfort and safety can no longer be guaranteed.
For a more family-friendly adventure, consider the Namibia Nomads, Jordan Nomads, Morocco Nomads, Scotland Nomads, or Norway Nomads.
Yes, most of our accommodations have Wi-Fi, including hotels and some guesthouses. However, in more remote areas, like Song-Kul or certain yurt camps, the connection may be limited, slow, or even non-existent.
We recommend buying a local SIM card with mobile data as soon as you arrive in Bishkek. Network coverage is generally good throughout the itinerary, except for a few isolated valleys where the signal is naturally weaker.
This way, you can stay connected while fully enjoying the disconnection offered by some of the most beautiful spots in Kyrgyzstan.
Yes, each accommodation has electricity. In the yurt camps, sometimes the outlets for charging phones and other devices are available in the common areas.
Some accommodations are powered by solar energy for electricity.
Kyrgyzstan Nomads is perfect for anyone who loves nature and adventure. Whether you’re an experienced traveller or are just venturing outside your comfort zone for the first time, if you’re open to new experiences, you’ve come to the right place!
As we offer a fully organised trip, it is not possible to adjust the duration or itinerary. However, you are free to extend your trip independently by spending a few extra days on site afterwards, for example, or continuing your journey to another country.
Depending on availability, you can add or remove most options (except cancellation insurance) until 45 days before departure. Generally, we follow a first-come, first-served principle, so early decision-makers are at an advantage.
Within 5 days after your registration, you must pay a deposit of 35% to confirm your trip. After that, you still have until 45 days before departure to modify your options and pay the remaining balance. If you make changes, the deposit is automatically recalculated.
There are various payment options, including Bancontact, Mastercard, iDeal. If you have a Travelbase voucher, you can use it as well.
If your payment fails, it is likely due to an incorrect reference number or exceeding your account limit.
The Superflex cancellation conditions are available for anyone who books early.
You can reschedule your trip to another period within the same season (depending on availability) or cancel for free before a certain date, which is clearly stated on the registration form.
If the deadline to use the Superflex conditions has passed, the general cancellation conditions apply.
It is always possible to cancel your trip. You can find the general cancellation conditions here. You can also rely on the Superflex cancellation conditions. More info under the FAQ ‘What are the Superflex cancellation conditions?
Kyrgyzstan Nomads has been specifically designed for groups of 2, 3 or 4 people.
A regular group consists of 2 people, but for each departure date, a single group of 3 can also take part. In that case, we will provide a car and a triple room in each hotel. Groups of 3 people will receive a discount of €300 on the final invoice.
Would you like to travel with 4 people in one car? That’s possible, you’ll then receive a discount of €350 on the final invoice. Please bear in mind, however, that in most accommodations you’ll be allocated two twin rooms instead of one quadruple room.
The basic price includes the following: a fully equipped car, overnight stays at unique locations, a comprehensive roadbook with useful tips and tricks, access to an exclusive app, and support before and during your trip.
For this trip, you must be at least 23 years old and have held a driving licence for 3 years.
Flights booked through Travelbase are generally non-refundable. This means that if you decide not to travel, your flight costs will generally not be refunded.
Can't travel? Please contact us as soon as possible. You can't cancel your flight or remove it from your booking yourself. We'll check the applicable conditions and let you know what options are available.
Flight tickets are issued in the passenger’s name and generally cannot be transferred to someone else. Name changes or corrections depend on the airline and the ticket’s terms and conditions.
If someone else needs to travel in your place, please contact us as soon as possible. We’ll then check what options are available.
Our roadbook contains all the information you need to ensure a successful road trip.
You will find the complete itinerary in it, including all the hotspots and hidden gems that aren't featured in major travel guides. The recommended places have been carefully selected to offer plenty of choice, but you are free to plan your days as you wish.
What's more, our roadbook contains lots of great places where you can grab something to eat or drink.
To obtain the Russian translation of your driver's license (necessary for all drivers in case of a police check).
Two options:
Option 1 – The translation is already included in your international driver's license
Some international driver's licenses already have a Russian translation page. If this is the case for you, no additional steps are needed.
Option 2 – Your international license does not contain a Russian translation
In this case, we can arrange for an official translation by a notary in Bishkek before your arrival.
To do this, you will need to send us (via email to info@kyrgyzstannomads.com) in a single pdf:
Photos are not accepted. Documents must be scanned to ensure readability.
The translation will be provided to you by our vehicle rental partner when you pick up your car. The cost is €17 per driver, to be paid in cash on site.
The essential documents to have with you are as follows:
An International Driving Permit (IDP) can be obtained from the designated authority in your country of residence (such as your national automobile association or driving licence authority).
When applying, make sure you receive the official multilingual IDP in the standard booklet format. This version usually includes several translations, including Russian.
We recommend checking this point well in advance to avoid any inconvenience during your trip.
No, you don't need a visa to enter Kyrgyzstan if you stay for less than 30 days.
Yes, all the hotels will provide towels for you. However, we recommend bringing a personal towel for swimming breaks.
It's recommended to have some cash on hand upon your arrival in Kyrgyzstan to avoid wasting time at the airport and to easily cover your initial expenses (SIM card, taxi, meals, small everyday costs).
We suggest bringing around 90 to 120 USD per person, in good condition, which you can exchange for Kyrgyz soms (KGS) upon arrival (either at the airport or in the city). Euros can also be exchanged at currency exchange offices in town, but they are less readily accepted for certain expenses like taxis or SIM cards.
Cash payments are still the norm in Kyrgyzstan. ATMs are mainly found in larger cities, and withdrawal fees may apply depending on your bank. Having cash from the start of your trip will allow you to travel more comfortably, especially in more remote areas.
Kyrgyzstan is a moderate Muslim country, and the Kyrgyz people are known for their hospitality and kindness. Showing respect through appropriate clothing is seen as a sign of consideration. In return, you’ll be welcomed warmly, often over tea or a shared meal. There are no strict dress codes, but it’s advisable to wear respectful attire, especially in villages: avoid clothes that are too short or tight. Go for comfortable, covering outfits that adapt to temperature changes (it can be very hot during the day and cold at night, especially at higher altitudes). A light scarf can also be handy when visiting religious sites.
An accident can happen quickly, which is why we recommend adding a damage waiver to your booking. This coverage will cost you €37 per day and ensures the vehicle while a member of your team is driving. By selecting this coverage, you won’t have to pay a deposit.
If you choose not to take the coverage, you will need to pay a deposit of €1000 before your departure, and a deductible of up to €3000 may be required in case of damage.
A few weeks before departure, you will receive a detailed packing list, carefully compiled by our experienced team. The packing list includes everything you need for your adventure, from clothing to equipment and useful extras.
You can find the required travel documents in the general preparation information for your trip.
Before your flight, check that your ID card or passport is valid and that your personal details match those on your flight booking.
As entry requirements can change and depend on your nationality, we recommend checking the latest official requirements before departure:
You will receive your flight ticket, including your booking reference (PNR) and ticket number, by email no later than 15 days before departure. Your flight ticket is also available in MyTravelbase.
Did you book your flight within 15 days of departure? Please allow up to 2 days for your flight tickets to be processed.
If your ticket isn't available in MyTravelbase within these timeframes or you haven't received it by email, contact us.
The flight itinerary can be found on our website, in the booking form during the booking process, and in MyTravelbase after booking.
We do everything we can to keep the flight information in MyTravelbase as up to date as possible. However, an airline may process a change on its own website or app before it appears in MyTravelbase.
Once you receive your flight tickets, we recommend keeping an eye on the airline’s website or app for any updates to your flight.
If there is a discrepancy, the airline’s information is therefore always the most up to date.
Your reservation code (also known as your booking reference or PNR) is the code you may need to check in online or manage your booking with the airline.
You’ll find this code on your flight ticket, which you’ll receive by email no later than 15 days before departure.
Your flight ticket is also available in MyTravelbase.
We recommend arriving at the airport 3 hours before European flights and 4 hours before intercontinental flights.
These are general guidelines. Before you leave, always check the latest information from your airline and airport, as recommended arrival times may vary. Make sure to allow enough time for your journey to the airport, as well as for possible crowds or queues.
Please note: It is your own responsibility to arrive at the airport on time. If you miss your flight because you arrive too late, the airline is not obliged to offer a refund or an alternative flight.
If you can't check in online, there could be several reasons:
Still can't check in online, or aren't sure what's causing the problem? Then contact us. We're happy to help.
You can retrieve your boarding pass from the airline by completing the check-in.
To check in, you need your booking code (booking reference or PNR) and/or your 13-digit ticket number. You can find these details on your flight ticket.
Your name and date of birth on the flightticket must match the details on your ID card or passport.
If you notice an error, please get in touch as soon as possible. We’ll check whether it needs to be corrected and, if necessary, request the change from the airline. Please note that fees may apply, depending on the airline.
It’s normal for names on flight tickets to appear without accents or spaces. Most airline reservation systems don’t recognise special characters or spaces, so names are often displayed as one continuous string of letters.
As long as your name is spelled correctly and matches the name on your passport, missing accents or spaces won’t be a problem and your ticket will remain valid.
No, through Travelbase we only offer return flights. If you book a flight through us, it will always be a return flight that matches the trip you booked.
No, Travelbase does not offer changes to the flights included in the package. The flights we offer are aligned with the trip’s official start and end dates, so your arrival and departure dates match the itinerary.
Would you like to arrive earlier, stay longer or travel on different dates? In that case, you can arrange your flights or transportation separately.
A return ticket is booked as one complete journey and cannot be split into separate one-way flights.
You can take the outbound flight and choose not to use the return flight, but the unused flight cannot be refunded.
Important: If you don’t take the first flight (a no-show), the airline will generally cancel the return flight and any remaining flights on the same ticket. This usually happens automatically and without prior notice.
Where possible, we try to seat travel companions next to each other, but we cannot guarantee this. The airline may change the seating arrangement for operational reasons.
Would you like to choose a specific seat yourself? Once you have received your flight tickets, you can usually check the available seats on the airline's website. Choosing a seat may involve an additional fee.
Yes, you can request a meal for your flight if the airline offers meal options on your route. Once you have received your flight tickets, and no later than 15 days before departure, log in to Manage Booking to add your preferred meal.
If Manage Booking is unavailable or you cannot add your meal preference online, please contact us. We will be happy to help.
Please note that meal requests depend on the airline’s catering options and availability on board. In rare cases, a requested meal may not be available on your flight, even if you selected it in advance.
The flights included in your trip are standard Economy Class flights.
Would you prefer to travel in a higher class? Once you’ve received your flight tickets, you can check directly with the airline whether an upgrade is available. Upgrades must be arranged directly with the airline and are at your own expense.
The availability and price of an upgrade are determined by the airline and may vary.
Yes. You can add your frequent flyer number when checking in or by managing your booking directly with the airline. You can also add it after your flight to claim your miles, depending on the airline.
Note: This is only possible for public flights - not for charters.
If the European passenger rights rules (EU261) apply, your rights depend on the length of the delay and the distance of your flight.
Assistance while you wait
If your departure is delayed, the airline must provide food and drinks after:
If you can only leave the next day, you are also entitled to a hotel stay and transport between the airport and the hotel. If the airline does not provide assistance and you have to cover necessary and reasonable expenses yourself, always keep your receipts.
5 hours or more of delay at departure
If your departure is delayed by at least 5 hours, you can choose not to travel and request a refund of your ticket. For connecting journeys, you may also be entitled to a return flight to your original departure point if necessary.
Financial compensation
If you arrive at your final destination 3 hours or more late, you may be entitled to financial compensation. The amount depends on the flight distance and can be up to €600 per person. You are not entitled to this compensation if the airline can show that the delay was caused by extraordinary circumstances that could not have been avoided.
You must submit a compensation claim directly to the airline that operated the flight.
No, passengers must request compensation for issues such as long delays, cancellations, denied boarding or baggage problems directly from the airline.
Travelbase cannot submit this claim on your behalf, but we're happy to help if you have any questions about the process.
If you know or think you’re going to miss your flight, contact the airline and Travelbase as soon as possible.
Contact us and use the following subject line:
URGENT - MISSED FLIGHT - [COUNTRY NAME] - [RESERVATION CODE]
The airline may be able to rebook your flight, but we can’t guarantee this. If you need to book a new flight, any additional costs will be at your own expense.
If possible, contact us before booking an alternative flight. This allows us to check whether your new arrival time fits in with the trip itinerary.
Important: If you miss your outbound flight, the airline may automatically cancel the remaining flights in your booking.
EU Regulation 261/2004 (EU261) protects air passengers in the event of flight delays, cancellations or denied boarding.
Depending on the situation, you may be entitled to care and assistance, a refund or an alternative flight, and/or financial compensation.
When does EU261 apply?
European passenger rights apply when:
EU261 generally does not apply to a flight from outside the EU to the EU operated by a non-EU airline.
If you are denied boarding, first ask the airline for an alternative flight, but do not confirm or accept the alternative immediately.
Unfortunately, this occasionally happens when travelling. Below you can find the steps we recommend you take.
Step 1: Report your missing baggage
You can report your missing baggage online via the airline's website or directly at the airport at the lost and found or baggage service desk. If possible, report it at the airport. Staff may be able to provide information about the status/location of your baggage.
Step 2: File a baggage claim (Property Irregularity Report)
The airline will ask you to complete a PIR form – the official form for delayed, lost, or damaged baggage. Have the following information ready:
Your reservation or booking code (PNR) and/or ticket number (on your e-ticket)
Passenger names
A copy of the baggage tag
A detailed description of your bag (color, size, material, distinctive features)
Step 3: Choose a delivery address
Specify where your baggage should be delivered once found – hotel, future accommodation, or home. Update the address if your plans change. Delivery costs are covered by the airline.
Step 4: Ask for compensation
Most airlines reimburse necessary purchases while waiting for your baggage. Keep all receipts or photos and check with the airline which expenses can be claimed.
Step 5: Track your baggage
After submitting your report, you receive a reference number. Track your bag via WorldTracer, an international tracking system used at almost 2,000 airports by over 360 airlines.
Keep in mind: Travelbase has no influence on locating or returning lost baggage.
If your flight is cancelled, the first thing you should do is check the options the airline offers and contact us for assistance if needed.
Under passengers rights (EU261) the airline must provide you with two options:
You can choose between an alternative flight (option 1) or to a refund (option 2).
Option 1: An alternative flight (=Rerouting) (you can choose whether to accept it if you find it suitable)
Before accepting an alternative flight, you can check the new arrival time with us to make sure it works with local trip arrangements (e.g shuttle transfers etc). We’ll do our best to accommodate the change if needed, but this cannot always be guaranteed.
Option 2: A refund of your ticket in case you don't accept the alternative or if the airline failed to offer one.
Booked own flights
If you decide on the refund of the ticket and you still wish to travel you'll need to book new flights (Verify whether a new roundtrip or a one-way has to be booked).
If you booked your own flights separately from our trip, the trip itself will not be reimbursed.
Booked flights via Travelbase
If you booked flights via Travelbase, either the airline provides a suitable alternative or we arrange a suitable alternative flight. Booking flights via Travelbase gives an extra layer of protection under the law of package travel. A cash refund for the flight will not be offered as we will provide an alternative at no additional cost to you.
For assistance and advice, you can to contact us.
If your flight is cancelled by the airline, you have several rights as a passenger under EU Regulation 261/2004 (EC 261).
1. Right to care
While waiting for your alternative flight, the airline must provide appropriate care, depending on the waiting time:
- Meals and refreshments
- Hotel accommodation (if an overnight stay is needed)
- Transport (between the airport and hotel)
- Two free phone calls, emails or faxes
2. Right to an alternative flight (option 1) or to a refund (option 2).
You get the choice between either:
Option 1: An Alternative flight (= Rerouting)
An alternative flight to your final destination under comparable conditions, at the earliest opportunity.
! If you choose rerouting, you cannot also claim a refund for the cancelled flight.
Option 2: A Refund
A full refund for the part of the journey you did not take.
3. Right to compensation
Depending on the circumstances, you may also be entitled to financial compensation for the cancellation, separate from your refund or rerouting.
The amount depends mainly on the flight distance and delay and can range from €250 to €600 per passenger.
Important: Compensation is not due for every cancellation. The timing of the cancellation and the reason for it can affect your entitlement.
The compensation claim must be made directly by the passenger. Travelbase cannot submit an EU261 compensation claim on your behalf.
Yes. Babies and children must be included in the flight booking, but the type of ticket depends on their age on the date of travel.
Babies under 2 years old:
A baby can travel:
Children aged 2 and over:
A child needs their own ticket and seat.
The child's details must be entered exactly as they appear on their passport or ID card. The child's age on the date of travel determines which rules apply. Exact conditions and fares may vary from one airline to another.
Minors must travel with the required valid travel documents, such as a passport or ID card, depending on the destination and the airline’s requirements.
Make sure that the name, date of birth and any other details you enter during booking exactly match those on the travel document.
Some destinations may also require additional documents, such as a parental consent form or proof of guardianship, especially when a child is travelling without both parents.
It’s your responsibility to check the specific entry requirements for your destination before departure. Feel free to contact us if you need help with this.
