De quels documents ai-je besoin pour voyager au Kirghizistan ?

The essential documents you need to have with you are as follows:

  • A valid passport for the entire duration of your trip and at least 6 months after your return date.
  • A valid driver's license is required to drive in Kyrgyzstan. In this regard, you have two options:
  • Have an international license. It must always be accompanied by your national license.
  • Obtain an official English translation of your license. We will provide you with the contact details of intermediaries capable of making these translations several weeks before your departure.

No visa is required to enter Kyrgyzstan. However, it's essential to have proof of your return flight ticket on hand, as you may be asked for it at any time while in the country.

It is recommended to always carry your documents with you when you step out of your vehicle.

What age do you need to be to drive in Kyrgyzstan?

To rent a car, you must be at least 23 years old and have held your driver's license for at least 3 years from the start date of the trip.

What does the roadbook contain?

The roadbook will serve as your guide to exploring Kyrgyzstan. It includes a detailed itinerary that takes you through the country's most iconic sites, as well as lesser-known destinations that often escape tourist guides. This way, you'll have the chance to discover unique places. While suggestions for stops are provided, you will have the freedom to adapt the route to your preferences and add extra stops.

Additionally, the roadbook lists a selection of places where you can enjoy a drink or a meal in the evening, so you can fully embrace the local atmosphere.

What additional fees should be considered?
  • Fuel: ± €160 per car for the entire trip.
  • Food and drinks outside of the breakfasts that are included in your basic package.
  • A local SIM card: €10
  • Access to certain tourist sites.
  • Parking tickets.
Can I customize the trip to my liking?

We offer a fully mapped road trip, so it is not possible to adjust the duration and schedule of the trip. You travel in semi-independence, which means your overnight accommodations are booked for you. During the day, you are free to do whatever you want. Our roadbook and app provide you with plenty of suggestions for activities and points of interest, and you have the freedom to choose the ones that interest you the most.

How many people can we take on this trip?

This trip is for groups of 2, 3, and 4 people, subject to availability.

For each departure date, we have a vehicle planned for a group of 3 people and a triple room in each hotel, with a discount of €300 automatically applied to the reservation. If you wish to travel as a group of 4, you'll be split into 2 rooms of 2 each night, and a discount of €350 will be automatically applied to your reservation. The other vehicles are intended for duos.

How does the payment work?

Within 5 days of your registration, you'll need to pay a 35% deposit to confirm your trip. After that, you have until 45 days before departure to modify your options and pay the balance. If you change your options, the deposit will be automatically recalculated.

If you haven't selected damage coverage, you'll also need to pay a €1000 deposit shortly before departure (more information in the insurance section).

There are different payment options. Did your payment fail? It’s probably due to an error when entering the reference number or exceeding your account limit.

Can I still cancel my trip?

You can still cancel your trip. You can find the cancellation conditions here. You can also refer to the ultra-flexible cancellation conditions until 01/03/2025. For more information, check the FAQ “What are the ultra-flexible cancellation conditions?”

What are the ultra-flexible cancellation conditions?

With the ultra-flexible booking option, you can move your trip within the same year based on availability, or cancel it for free (including flights) until 01/03/2026. This option is available for free to those who booked in the first few weeks.

Is there assistance on spot?

During your road trip, you will have access to plenty of useful information through our app. Plus, just before your departure, you will receive an invitation to join a WhatsApp group with other participants traveling on the same date. This group will allow you to communicate with each other, and a member of our team will also be available in case of an emergency.

Do you want to take action for nature?

Thanks to our partnership with Greentripper, you can offset the CO2 emissions from your trip. Your contribution goes towards the certified Wildlife Cambodia project, which protects various types of forests and the wildlife that lives there. Additionally, Travelbase also contributes on its side.

Are there towels, Wi-Fi, and electricity in the accommodations?

All hotels will provide towels for you. However, please note that this won't be the case in one of the yurt camps, where you'll spend 2 nights.

The same goes for Wi-Fi; most accommodations have an internet connection, except for more remote yurt camps or certain guesthouses in small villages.

Each accommodation has electricity. In yurt camps, sometimes the outlets for charging phones and other devices are accessible in common areas.

Do we have to share the yurts with other pairs?

The yurts are reserved for pairs/trios, so you won't have to share any common room. The restrooms, particularly in the yurt camps, may be located outside the accommodations.

Do I need to exchange money before my departure?

Yes, it's important to bring cash for the first few days on-site, as most expenses in Kyrgyzstan are made in cash. We recommend bringing 90 to 120 USD per person, in good condition bills, which you can exchange for Kyrgyz soms upon arrival (at the airport or in the city).

ATMs are scarce outside of major cities, and withdrawal fees may apply depending on your bank (often around 3 to 7%, sometimes with a minimum amount). So, having cash ready from the start will help avoid any unpleasant surprises in more remote areas.

Are there any medical contraindications for this trip?

Kyrgyzstan is a very mountainous country, with great differences in altitude. You will spend 2 nights at over 3000m above sea level, which can cause migraines in some people. We advise against this trip for individuals with lung issues or for pregnant women.

As for the rest, Kyrgyzstan is a very safe country, especially in terms of food hygiene.

Can we participate with children?

The Kyrgyzstan Nomads trip is not an ideal road trip for young children. Due to

  • the long mountain journeys,
  • the high altitude (up to 3,000 m)
  • and the sometimes harsh conditions.

We recommend a minimum age of 8 years.
Below this age, comfort and safety are no longer guaranteed.
For a more family-friendly adventure, consider the Namibia Nomads, Jordan Nomads, Morocco Nomads, Scotland Nomads, or the Norway Nomads.

How should I dress in Kyrgyzstan?

Kyrgyzstan is a moderately Muslim country, and the Kyrgyz are known for their hospitality and kindness. Showing respect through appropriate attire is seen as a sign of consideration. In return, you will be warmly welcomed, often over tea or a shared meal. There are no strict dress codes, but it's advisable to wear respectful clothing, especially in villages: avoid overly short or tight-fitting clothes. Opt for comfortable, covering clothes suitable for temperature variations (it can be very hot during the day and cold at night, especially at higher altitudes). A light scarf can also be useful when visiting religious sites.
