Covering around 270 km\u00b2, it is the country\u2019s second-largest lake after Issyk-Kul, but its character is completely different. There are no lively beaches or resort towns here, just alpine pastures stretching as far as the eye can see.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Unlike Issyk-Kul, which never freezes thanks to its salinity, Song-Kul is completely covered in ice during winter, sometimes until early June. This harsh climate is precisely why the lake remains uninhabited for much of the year.
